The session not only encouraged attendees to reflect on the impact of the built environment on young lives but also equipped them with practical tools and resources to make a difference.<\/span><\/p><p><b>Key Highlights<\/b><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Hands-On Learning:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Participants explored innovative tools like the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reverse periscope<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a simple cardboard-and-mirrors device that allows adults to experience the world from a child\u2019s perspective. By seeing streets from a child\u2019s height, attendees gained unique insights into hazards, sightlines, and the hidden wonders of navigating environments designed for taller people.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Practical Resources:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Students were introduced to two key guides:<\/span><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to Engage Kids in Street Design<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: A toolkit for involving children in the design process and making their voices a central part of urban planning.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to Evaluate Street Transformations Near Schools<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: A guide to assessing the long-term impact of street design projects near schools to champion safer and more joyful urban spaces.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><b>Creative Inspiration<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The session sparked creativity among attendees, many of whom shared drawings of their \u201cdream streets.\u201d These visions included features like bike lanes, additional greenery, benches, and dedicated play areas for children. The interactive session encouraged participants to think about how inclusive design can shape healthier, more vibrant communities.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This GDCI session highlighted the transformative potential of streets designed with children in mind.
