It noted that a long term, multi-sectorial partnership between young people, youth-led organizations, government, civil society, private sector, religious communities, and educational institutions is an important strategy to ensure the sustainability of the Youth, Peace and Security agenda.<\/p>\n<p>Douglas Ragan, the Chief of Youth and Livelihood Unit at UN-Habitat, pointed out that while some young people are at risk of recruitment by Violent Extremist Groups, they are by no means the majority.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn many cases, youth are agents of change and are seeking to be taken seriously and be part of decision-making processes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PEOPLE ALSO READ:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"rich-text block-editor-rich-text__editable\" role=\"textbox\" contenteditable=\"true\" aria-multiline=\"true\" aria-label=\"Write list\u2026\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unhabitatyouth.org\/es\/2020\/05\/28\/africa-how-urban-mobility-can-come-back-stronger-in-a-post-pandemic-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Africa: How Urban Mobility Can Come Back Stronger In A Post-Pandemic World<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unhabitatyouth.org\/es\/2020\/06\/03\/development-policies-must-be-changed-because-of-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Development Policies Must Be Changed Because\u00a0Of Covid-19<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_130519\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<figure id=\"attachment_130519\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-130519\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-130519 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/unhabitat.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/pic2-1.jpg\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/unhabitat.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/pic2-1.jpg 640w, https:\/\/unhabitat.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/pic2-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/unhabitat.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/pic2-1-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/unhabitat.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/pic2-1-200x150.jpg 200w, https:\/\/unhabitat.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/pic2-1-480x360.jpg 480w\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-130519\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-130519\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Participants attending the UN-Habitat and UNODC side event at the 2019 ECOSOC Youth Forum.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Panelist Charles Nadar, also noted the importance of recognizing several factors that contribute to youth participation in violence.\u00a0 \u201cEmployment alone is not a solution,\u201d he said. \u201cSocial reconstruction, treating trauma, and supporting emotional and mental wellbeing are also key to addressing this issue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The discussion also highlighted the importance of a bottom-up, top-down approach which includes partnership between government officials and youth-led organizations to establish a network of City Champions for Youth, Peace and Security. Similar to Climate Action Champions, these are young people, government officials and private sector actors committed to creating a network of likeminded individuals to ensure synergies with national and city plans on the implementation of UNSCR 2250.<\/p>\n<p>Nairobi County Executive Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Planning Charles Kerich noted: \u201cYouth need to play a central role in making the policies that affect them. They need a space at the decision-making table. I would like Nairobi to be designated as the first city to champion the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Placing youth in leadership and at the forefront of peacebuilding opportunities is an important aim of the UNSC Resolution 2250.
