UN-Habitat: Pathways to the Blue Economy Youth Event

UN-Habitat is partnering with the Canadian High Commission and the Commonwealth to host a two-day event ahead of the UN Habitat Assembly to be held in Nairobi, Kenya from 27th to 31st May 2019. Pathways to the Blue Economy – Harnessing Economic Opportunities for Youth through Innovation (Pathways) will be held from the 23rd to 24th May 2019 at UN Complex in Gigiri and will focus on ways of harnessing economic opportunities for youth in the Blue Economy and Cities. Pathways is expected to host more than 200 youth and a number of partners including the Youth Congress, Government of Kenya, Kenya Private Sector Alliance, Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association among others.

Pathways will explore ways of unlocking opportunities for youth in the Blue Economy. Speakers from different sectors will highlight and discuss different careers in the blue economy. The forum will share mechanisms that can be used to harness youth innovation in building sustainable cities and Blue Economy.

The preliminary programme for the event features opening remarks by Canada’s High Commissioner Lisa Stadelbauer, Executive Director of UN-Habitat Maimunah Mohd Sharif in addition to several youth speakers and an open discussion period.
