Youth 2030 Cities Forums

Fostering exchange of opinions among young people towards a DeclarACTION on youth and sustainable urbanization.

Youth 2030 Cities Forums are a series of events bringing together young people globally to learn from one another, plan for the future and act to create more sustainable and livable cities.

The first Forums are being held in Ecuador, Colombia, Senegal, Ghana, India and Vietnam. An outcome of the Forums are national DeclarACTIONs on youth and sustainable urbanization. From these a global DeclarACTION will be created and adopted at the 2022 World Urban Forum Youth Assembly.

What is a DeclarACTION?

The DeclarACTIONs are the roadmap for urban youth action within that country, relating to the achievement of the SDGs and the New Urban Agenda.

The DeclarACTIONS are strategic roadmaps developed by youth across various cities to drive local action in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the New Urban Agenda. As of now, there are seven Youth DeclarACTIONS, each reflecting the unique priorities and challenges of their respective cities. These cities include Otavalo (Ecuador), Cali (Colombia), Accra (Ghana), Thiès (Senegal), Quito (Ecuador), Bogotá (Colombia), and Da Nang (Vietnam).

In each of these locations, young people engaged in Urban Youth Forums, where they collaboratively identified key urban challenges and crafted actionable commitments. These DeclarACTIONS are not only tools for local youth advocacy but also serve as blueprints for sustainable urban development, ensuring that youth voices are central in the planning and implementation processes at the city level. Through these initiatives, youth are empowered to influence local governance and contribute to global urban sustainability efforts .

Phase 1 of Youth 2030 Cities culminated in a Global DeclarACTION on Youth and Sustainable Urbanization adopted at WUF 11 in Katowice, Poland. An updated DeclarACTION will be adopted at WUF 12‘s Children and Youth Assembly in Cairo, Egypt.
